We Amis, of course, got ourselves all decked out as best we could - painting 'USA' and American flags on our cheeks and waving the one mini-sized flag we had wildly. The game was a real nail-biter, full of foals, yellow cards, red cards, injuries, and one goal that - had it not been called offsides - would have meant that USA would have WON the game! We were SO close!!

The World Cup and the outburst of national pride on the part of all countries involved has really gotten me thinking lately. As I sat there, with my country's flag on my cheek and a miniature one in my hand, I could not help but be completely overcome with an incredible sense of pride. I love the USA, and I love being an American. I am so proud of my country and all that we have achieved, and I am proud to be a part of the world's first constitutional republic. Every nation on earth is different, but I truly believe the United States is special. It was once called a unique political experiment, and it is still very much unique. As we marched through the streets of the Altstadt after the game, proudly cheering and being our wonderful loud, boistrous American selves, not even the jeers of anti-American Germans we passed could put me in a bad mood. I'm an American, and win or lose, I fly and wear my nation's flag with the utmost pride.

YAYYYYYY!
That stupid ref was on crack!! Both of those red cards against us were bogus. The first one was a yellow card at the most and the second one was no more than a foul shot. He made a couple of bad calls (though less important ones) against the Italians too. All of the commentators here were saying how they thought that he would never ref another World Cup game again after today's performace was reviewed.
Oh and that is a really good pic of you!
Yay USA! As I was walking down the street to pick up my friend at the underground station, I heard a burst of cheers escape practically every building on the street. Glanced in at the next pub, and Italy had scored their first goal. So the next time I heard cheering, I assumed they'd gotten their second one, but as I was waiting for my Doener, I heard two girls next to me say "eins zu eins!" and I thought "what?!!" and I peered around the corner and sure enough we were tied!!! Great stuff. However, now I won't know who to pick in the Ghana vs. USA game... I love Ghana... *sniffle* But how can I not cheer for my hometeam? And it really depends on the Czech vs. Italy game... *suspense*
Italy's gotta win, and we do too, so that our two teams advance into the next round. The only other option is that we win and the Czechs beat Italy, leaving both Italy and the US with 4 points, but then it will rely on most-goals-scored, which I think Italy might win (unless we score lots of goals against Ghana but somehow still lose.) So come on Italy, win your game! and GO USA!
We watch the games live. They usually come on at 9 o'clock, noon, and 3 o'clock -- we never make the first one, rarely make the second one, but the third one is usually the best one anyway.
