Yesterday evening Annette and I went for a walk through her neighborhood in a suburb of Stuttgart and we got to chatting about where we'd like to live eventually when our lives "get started." Annette is leaning toward living in Poland or some other country in the world, and I have to say that as we walked around in that neighborhood and I looked at the houses, I could pretty easily imagine myself living in a place like that in Germany for a long time.
The walk got me to thinking that I will probably end up moving to Germany for an indefinite period of time within 5 years of graduation, if not sooner. The funny thing is that there is such a sense of pride in me thinking about that. Part of the thrill of living in Europe, for me, is knowing that I am doing something that only a handful - if any - people in my high school graduating class have done or are capable of doing. I want to walk into my 10-year reunion and be able to say, "See? Look what I did. I've moved to a different continent, speak a different language, and live a totally different life than you can ever imagine. My life ROCKS!"
I dunno. In any case, I definitely feel the desire to live here in Europe for a long time. It's just way too cool to not do that.

just make sure you get everything ironed out before you go there. applying for a residence visa is not that great, let me tell you. but best of luck to you.
totally not related: have you ever randomly browsed through other peoples' blogs on blogger? they're atrocious! i'm starting to think that we have to the two best looking blogs on here.
are you checking my blog every ten minutes or what? since i'm bedridden this weekend i've spent a lot of time making new headers. (i changed it this time just because you noted it.) and purses are to girls like blog headers are to me. i wish i could figure out how to rotate them. alas, i'm not geeky enough to figure it out.
sometimes i'm lucky and come across a german one. those can be fun.
so thanks for the rotating header idea. i talked to one of my internet prodigy friends and she figured it out. my blog just got a little bit cooler...
What Matt? You mean you don't want to rush home and sign right up for a minivan and morgage in a nice new suburb development and a job as a mid-level manager at your local corporation?! I'm shocked!
re Erica: haha :-) I think that's what I fear the most, more even than being poor! (which, as long as I have a place to stay, friends, and food to eat, I would actually find appealing)
I don't think I can stand staying away from Europe for long stretches anymore. I told my friends that "it's been soooo long" since I'd been to Germany, before realizing it's actually only been 9 months. :-P
